How Does it Work?
How does it work?
Dr. Amaro, the founder of The International Academy of Medical Acupuncture, www.iama.edu, explains it this way, “The human body’s energy flow courses over twelve meridians or channels that are normally well balanced. If a disruption of energy flow exists, it can alter the entire system, producing pain or symptoms in the body."
Far too often a patient is told after extensive examination by a medical doctor, "There is nothing wrong," "Its all in your head" or "Sorry you'll have to learn to live with it. The examining doctor unable to find the cause of the problem has little else to tell the patient. A great example of this is to imagine a seasaw with a 175 pound man on one side and a 45 pound child on the other side, the heaver person would be sitting on the ground the lighter person would be dangling in the air. It becomes obvious the seasaw is 'broken' or not working properly, extensive examination of the seasaw would reveal that nothing is wrong with the seasaw. The obvious answer is the balance.
Acupuncture’s goal –to restore balance to the body’s energy by utilizing a combination of Acupoints located on the twelve meridians. This is accomplished by a variety of means, the needle is just one.
